Start your day fully hydrated

Drinking a glass of room-temperature water is a great way to start off your day! This can be the start of a hydration habit that you keep going throughout your day. And, if you had a meal consisting of salty food, or an alcoholic cocktail or two the night before, your body will be craving water the minute you wake up! Typically, men require 125 ounces of water a day, and women 90, so be sure to get started drinking water early in your day!

Replace any fluids that you lose when you work out

Working out will make your body burn off plenty of water, even if you’ve been steadily consuming fluids. After your workout is over, take some time to cool down, and then drink a glass or two slowly until your thirst is quenched. Try to replace between 20 and 24 ounces of water immediately following your workout. Remember not to chug!

Drink plenty of water throughout your day

Even when you have a day off from the gym, you still need to consume plenty of water. This means that you should start your day well-hydrated and keep drinking until it’s time for bed. Remember to drink your water slowly. Chugging excessive amounts of water can make it difficult for your body to absorb. Your body can absorb about 32 ounces of water in an hour and may require this amount or more following periods of exertion. Listen to your body, and make sure that you are staying hydrated.
